How Do We Forgive,Pray
9"This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.[a]' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
There you have it, the words of the prayer Master Himself, this is the example Jesus gave us when He taught His disciples how to pray.
Prayer often seems such a simple idea, you just tell God what's on your mind, seems straight forward doesn't it? If this were so, we would have a much deeper and better prayer life, now wouldn't we? So how can we get more motivated about speaking to the Lord? When you consider the ingredients in this example Jesus gave us in Matthew 6:9-15, it is packed with a focus on some very big items. Jesus surely knew what we would deal with and this example illustrates the power of God in your life!!! He prayed that the kingdom of God would come to the earth, wow! Look around you, this world seems nothing like the kingdom of Heaven! The good news, someday it will be very peaceful indeed. Until that day, we have some other things that will come our way. Jesus prayed concerning temptation. He knew full well that the evil one would put temptation at every corner of our lives. Jesus prayed that we would in fact be delivered (made free) from evil.
Jesus also knew that sin would be something we would need to deal with. He prayed that God would forgive us of this debt and that we would forgive those who sin against us. When it comes to forgiving, the power of God is so very necessary to get us to where we can forgive. To forgive is not a simple task when we attempt to do it on our own power. The power we need can only be supplied by God, through the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Jesus takes this need we have for forgiving those who sin against us, quite seriously indeed! He states in verse 14 that for you to not be willing to seek God in giving you the power to forgive, has a very serious result; its seems that God's forgiveness for your own sin(s) depends on your willingness to forgive those who sin against you. You see, as a Christian you have done what religions do not do, you have accepted the fact that you have sinned against your Creator, and you accepted His method of dealing with your sin, Christ Jesus died on the cross and by trusting Him as your Savior, your sins have been forgiven. Once forgiven through Jesus, you should be willing to forgive those who sinned against you, and what a wonderful difference this makes in our relationship with God and with those we have forgiven!
So if today you cannot think of something to pray about, use this powerful example Jesus gave us. Ask God to make you all that He wants you to be, and ask Him to especially give you the power needed to truly forgive those who have sinned against you!
