The Truth Will Make You Free!
Have you ever looked at one of those signs kids sometimes make? You know, the kind where they cut letters out of magazines and you have different colors, fonts and sizes. They put them together to make words. Well, I just hate it when people do that sort of thing with the Bible. Sometimes people take verses out of context, like the kids do with the signs, and they paste these verses together to say what they want to say. These days we see that happening far too often. The BIG problem is, they call it truth because it came from the Bible. I do believe every word of the Bible! I also understand that you can take small parts out of their original context and make it say, well, pretty much whatever you want. Would you want your surgeon to learn a new procedure that way, and then operate on you? I don't think so! So don't do this with the Word of God, the Bible!
The Bible does tells us that " the truth shall make you free". This is a quote, Jesus is the one who said it. How many times have I heard people take these few words out of context. You need to look at the entire passage to get the full understanding of this verse. So Here it is "As He spoke these things, many came to believe in Him. 31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, " If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." See that, there is a catch to being free! First, Jesus said this to people who believed in Him. Next, He said " If you continue in My word", which proves you are in fact, His disciple. Now after all of that, He said that you will KNOW the truth! great isn't it, you will actually know the truth by continuing in His word!!! Knowing the truth about Jesus will surely make you free, because you will have all eternity to look forward to. Heaven is waiting for those who are TRULY His Disciples. Amen! So please, don't do a cut and paste to get God to say what you want to hear! Take Him at His Word!
John 14:15-17 15 " If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.16 "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
