Daily Proverb - Proverbs, Chapter 13

"Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice"

Have  you ever been involved in a discussion that lead to an argument?  I know that I have and it isn't my idea of fun!  I don't like confrontation but I do realize that it is part of life.  Usually the argument breaks out because someone refuses to admit they are wrong.  I don't like to be the one who is wrong, but this also is part of life.  I admit, I'm not always fast to admit my error.  Most of the time, I need someone to show me I am wrong!   I am happy to say that I do, and have come around to admitting it.  You see, if we would just be willing to take the advice of others, we could avoid quarrels.  But holding on to the bitter end, often divides people to the point where their pride won't let them get-over-it- already!  So as for pride, it isn't good.  We need to be able to submit to the truth and not get locked in by pride!

"He who scorns instruction will pay of it,  but he who respects a command is rewarded"

Gosh can you imagine a world where people refuse to learn?  How many fools have you encountered in your life?  This verse speaks of a person who simply refuses instruction and by doing so, will pay for it!  Can you think of a time when you did not follow the instructions and got burned?  If you can't follow a simple recipe found on a can of soup or on a box cake mix,  you are headed for trouble in life!  I like the way this verse ends "but he who respects a command is rewarded".  You have to admit, the cake tastes much better when we add all the ingredients!

"He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm."

Listen, you cannot be a carrot unless you grow in a carrot garden.  So if you want to be wise, keep company with wise people.  But if you insist, you can be a fool simply by hanging around fools.  You can be sure you will suffer for it!  Remember,  you will also reap the benefits of wise people, if you choose wisdom.  You will grow to be just like those who are around you, so choose your friends wisely!
