Daily Proverb - Proverbs,
Chapter 8
"for
wisdom is more precious than rubies"
I always enjoy the
introduction to each chapter of Proverbs! Always packed with encouragement
to continue seeking wisdom and remembering God's commands. Verse 4 and 5
move into the sin of adultery, yet again.
1Does not wisdom
call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?
2On
the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand;
3beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries
aloud: 4"To you,
O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. 5You
who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding. 6Listen,
for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. 7My
mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. 8All
the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. 9To
the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have
knowledge. 10Choose
my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, 11for
wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with
her.
More encouragement
to get wisdom! I love how this chapter starts - “Does not wisdom call
out?”. The fact is, God is just! One of His attributes is that He is
a just God. He doesn’t keep us in the dark. No, He “has given us
everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who
called us by his own glory and goodness” (2Peter 1:3). God wants us to
succeed! He wants us to bring Him glory! God wants His best for us
and so He has provided for us wisdom and knowledge.
Wisdom and knowledge are
there for everyone, not just select people. God does not show favoritism,
He is fair and just. Wisdom and knowledge are all around us. I love
Psalm 19, it is my favorite of all Psalms. I suggest you read it and
after, consider that everyone who has eyes to see or ears to hear, can see His
glory and know God is there. We will never have an excuse, God has
revealed Himself to us. You can see it in nature and hear it, you can feel
it in your emotions and know that He does exist. And He wants and knows
what is best for you!
Wisdom, far more
precious than rubies! Knowledge, better than choice gold! His
instruction, better than silver! It's all around you isn’t it!
